CAROLE CHENEY CALLS PETER ROSKAM’S TAX VOTE IRRESPONSIBLE AND MISGUIDED
NAPERVILLE, IL – Today, Carole Cheney, leading Democratic candidate for the Illinois 6th Congressional District, issued the following statement in response to Representative Peter Roskam’s irresponsible tax vote that advances his party’s agenda instead of the priorities of the district he was elected to represent:
“Today, Peter Roskam voted for a budget that could clear the way for the elimination of state and local tax deductions at the expense of the people he represents. This vote is another misguided attempt to deliver for the wealthiest among us while asking hard-working Americans to pick up the difference. In fact, 20 Republicans voted against this legislation because of the hardships it will add to families who are already working hard to make ends meet. It is yet another example of Peter Roskam’s irresponsible dedication to the special interests and big corporations even if it means putting the district he represents at risk.”
Carole Cheney served as District Chief of Staff in Illinois 11th District, which adjoins the 6th, from 2013 until 2017. During that time, she focused on delivering for the residents of the district – from making sure seniors received help in navigating the social security system, to helping return millions of tax dollars back to the district so that it could be reinvested into the community, and ensuring that the congressional doors would always be open so constituents could voice their concerns and be heard.
Before working with a Member of Congress, Carole was a partner at the international law firm Kirkland & Ellis LLP. She practiced there for two decades after graduating from Northwestern University School of Law where she served as editor-in chief of the Law Review. Carole also has experience as a journalist and in the non-profit sector, and is an active member of her community having served on the board of various non-profits and joining two humanitarian trips to Haiti, most recently in 2016.
Carole has been endorsed by Representative Bill Foster (IL-11) and Representative Robin Kelly (IL-02) in her bid to unseat Peter Roskam.
