Cheney Scores Second Congressional Endorsement From Rep. Robin Kelly; Momentum At Cheney’s back for 2018 Primary
Congresswoman Kelly joins Congressman Bill Foster by endorsing Carole Cheney’s bid for Illinois’ 6th Congressional District
NAPERVILLE, IL – Carole Cheney (D-Naperville), leading Democratic candidate for the Illinois 6th Congressional District, today announced that her candidacy has been endorsed by Congresswoman Robin Kelly (IL-02).
“Peter Roskam, Donald Trump, and extremist Republicans have put their own interests first, radicalizing a political agenda that hurts families across Illinois,” said Congresswoman Robin Kelly. “We need another strong woman who will put the interests of her constituents first, instead of special interests.
“Carole is focused, determined, and driven – but most of all, she cares about people and will fight for them. I need Carole Cheney by my side in Congress to fight against the radical Republican agenda that is hurting families across Illinois and across the country,” added Congresswoman Kelly.
This marks Cheney’s second endorsement from a member of the Illinois Congressional Delegation. Cheney was endorsed by Congressman Bill Foster in July. No other candidate seeking to unseat Republican Peter Roskam has been backed by a member of Congress.
“Peter Roskam worked to pass a health care bill that assaults women’s rights and makes care less affordable. When Donald Trump said he wanted to pass tax reform, Peter Roskam started working on legislation to give massive tax giveaways to billionaires and wealthy corporations that fund his political career. Working families can’t afford Peter Roskam. Small businesses can’t afford Peter Roskam. Illinois can’t afford Peter Roskam,” said Congresswoman Kelly.
“I’m proud to have Congresswoman Kelly standing with my campaign,” said Carole Cheney. “She is an exemplary Representative who fights for her district and sticks to her core values. I look forward to fighting hand in hand with her to protect Illinois families from the divisive and harmful radical agenda advocated by Donald Trump and Peter Roskam.”
Carole Cheney, a resident of the 6th District who lives in Naperville, served as District Chief of Staff in the Illinois 11th District, which adjoins the 6th, from 2013 until 2017. During that time, she focused on delivering for the residents of the district – from making sure seniors received help in navigating the social security system, to helping return millions of tax dollars back to the district so that it could be reinvested into the community, and ensuring that the congressional doors would always be open so constituents could voice their concerns and be heard.
Before working with a Member of Congress, Carole was a partner at the international law firm Kirkland & Ellis LLP. She practiced there for two decades after graduating from Northwestern University School of Law where she served as editor-in chief of the Law Review. Carole also has experience as a journalist and in the non-profit sector, and is an active member of her community having served on the board of various non-profits and joining two humanitarian trips to Haiti, most recently in 2016.
